Obiettivi formativi
Il modulo verterà sulle teorie filosofiche dei concetti, focalizzandosi prima di tutto sui problemi che ogni teoria del genere, sia quelle di matrice internista, sia quelle di matrice esternista, deve affrontare e poi sulla cosiddetta teoria originalista dei concetti di Sainsbury e Tye, secondo la quale i concetti sono individuati prima di tutto nei termini della loro origine all'interno di una catena causal/intenzionale di trasmissione. Si valuterà infine se tale teoria riesce, come dice, a risolvere meglio delle altre teorie i problemi suddetti.
This module will deal with philosophical theories of concepts, while focusing first on the problem that any such theory, both those internalistically-oriented and those externalistically-oriented, has to face, and second on Sainsbury-Tye's originalist theory of concepts. According to this theory, concepts are primarily individuated in terms of their origin, within a causal/intentional transmission chain. Finally, one will assess whether this theory is able to deal with the above problems better than any other such theory, as it claims.

Lo studente dovrà essere in grado di leggere approfonditamente testi filosofici anche in lingua inglese, conoscere ed esporre i principali argomenti a favore delle teorie e dei punti di vista in esame e saperli discuterli criticamente. Ciò verrà fatto sia tenendo conto di i) esame orale finale, ii) seminari tenuti dagli studenti durante le lezioni iii) domande da parte degli studenti sui testi in programma.
Students should be able to scrutizine philosophical texts also written in English, to know and present the main arguments in favour of the examined theories and views, and to know how to discuss them critically. This will be accomplished via i) oral examinations ii) students' presentations during the course iii) quality of the students' questions on the scrutinized texts.

Esame orale ed eventuale valutazione di domande scritte sui testi in programma. La valutazione dipendera' i) dal grado di preparazione e di capacita' di affrontare criticamente i testi ii) capacita' di presentazione orale di un articolo iii) capacità di porre domande efficaci e pertinent sui testi in programma.
Oral examination plus possible evaluation of written questions on the scrutinized texts. The evaluation will depend on i) the students' preparation on the programmed texts and their ability to face them critically ii) their capacity to make an oral presentation of a paper iii) their capacity to ask pertinent and penetrating questions on the programmed texts.
