The course is addressed to students who have already taken introductory courses in epistemology of sciences, logic and philosophy of language

Its aim is to provide a detailed exposition of some of the main problems and debates in current theory of knowledge, its nature, justification and scope.

At the end of the course the students will know:

- how to analyze the main positions in some central problems in epistemology;

- how the asses an argument with regard the foundation of knowledge;

- how inductive methodology proceeds;

- what are the main arguments with regard the problem of realism.

To verify the knowledge acquired, students will be asked to do written tests that include exercises and theoretical questions. The written tests will be intended to check their understanding of the notions presented in the course and their capacity to carry out some elementary proofs.

The goal of this course is to introduce some of the main problems in both general epistemology and epistemology of science, and present and asses the main accounts with regard them

 

  1. Introduction: The problems of knowledge
  2. The concept of knowledge. Types of knowledge
  3. Internalisms vs Externalisms
  4. The problem of Skepticism
  5. The problem of Induction
  6. The problem of scientific realism
