Obiettivi formativi

I temi e gli argomenti trattati, insieme alle competenze e alle abilità che si intendono formare, sono necessari ad acquisire conoscenze avanzate di filosofia della letteratura di matrice analitica. Il corso si propone anche di insegnare a riconoscere e valutare le argomentazioni presentate nei diversi dibattiti riguardanti il valore cognitivo, morale ed estetico della letteratura.

Subjects and topics of this course, together with tasks and skills that will be acquired, are necessary to get advanced knowledge of philosophy of literature of the analytic tradition. The course aims also to teach how to identify and evaluate arguments presented in the debates concerning the cognitive, moral and aesthetic value of literature.

a) Conoscenza della filosofia della letteratura e capacità di analisi di un testo; b) capacità di applicare le conoscenze apprese durante il corso e comprensione degli argomenti filosofici presentati; c) capacità di giudizio nel valutare le diverse posizioni esaminate; d) capacità di esporre al docente le diverse posizioni filosofiche con esempi ed eventuali controesempi; e) lettura, commento e spiegazione dei testi presentati durante il corso. 

a) Have a good knowledge of the philosophy of literature and have the ability to analyze a philosophical text; b) have the ability to employ what has been discussed during the course and to understand the philosophical arguments that have been examined; c) have the ability to value the philosophical positions thus presented; d) ability to present philosophical positions by making use of examples and counterexamples; e) reading, comment and comprehension of the texts discussed during the course.

Modalità di insegnamento

Lezioni della durata complessiva di 36 ore (un modulo) con l'ausilio di slides; discussione di argomenti e teorie in classe; presentazioni di articoli da parte di studenti e discussione collettiva. 

Lectures (36 hs. overall) using slides; individual and group discussions of arguments and theories in the classroom; students' paper presentations and general discussion.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento

Esame orale ed eventuale valutazione di domande scritte sui testi in programma. La valutazione dipenderà: i) dal grado di preparazione e di capacità di affrontare criticamente i testi; ii) capacità di presentazione orale di un articolo; iii) capacità di porre domande efficaci e pertinenti sui testi in programma. Durante l’esame sarà verificato che lo studente sia in possesso di: a) conoscenza della filosofia della letteratura e capacità di analisi di un testo; b) comprensione degli argomenti filosofici presi in esame; c) capacità di esporre al docente le diverse posizioni filosofiche con esempi e controesempi; d) capacità di commento e spiegazione dei testi.

Oral examination plus possible evaluation of written questions on the scrutinized texts. The evaluation will depend on i) the students' preparation on the programmed texts and their ability to face them critically; ii) their capacity to make an oral presentation of a paper; iii) their capacity to ask pertinent and penetrating questions on the programmed texts. During the examination students have to show to: a) have a good knowledge of the philosophy of literature together with the ability to analyze a philosophical text; b) have understood the philosophical arguments analyzed during the course; c) possess the ability to present philosophical positions by making use of examples and counterexamples; d) be able to comment and understand the selected texts.

Programma

Che cosa significa vedere la letteratura come arte? Perché alcune opere sono opere d’arte e altre no? Quand’è che un testo scritto diventa letteratura? Perché ci emozioniamo leggendo romanzi e poesie? Il corso si propone di delineare alcune risposte a queste e ad altre domande classiche di filosofia della letteratura.

What does it mean to see literature as art? Why are some literary works artworks and not others? When does a written text become literature? Why do we react emotionally to poems and novels? The course aims at sketching possible answers to these and similar questions typical of philosophy of literature.
