Obiettivi formativi
Lo studente dovrà essere in grado di leggere approfonditamente testi filosofici, conoscere ed esporre i principali argomenti a favore delle teorie e dei punti di vista in esame e saperli discuterli criticamente. Ciò gli dovrà consentire di saper presentare tali teorie anche a fini didattici, in vista di collegamenti interdisciplinari con altri temi (specialmente in connessione alle scienze cognitive), e di dominare le tecnologie necessarie per tali presentazioni.
Scholars will have to prove to be able to thoroughly read philosophical texts, to know and to present the main arguments in favour and against the theories and perspectives at stake and to discuss them critically. At the end of the course scholars will be able to master the logical space of the positions in question, so as to be able to present them also in interdisciplinary perspective (in particular wrt cognitive sciences), also from a technological point of view.

Lo studente dovrà essere in grado di leggere approfonditamente testi filosofici in lingua inglese, conoscere ed esporre i principali argomenti a favore delle teorie e dei punti di vista in esame e saperli discuterli criticamente. Ciò verrà fatto sia tenendo conto di i) esame orale finale, ii) seminari tenuti dagli studenti durante le lezioni, iii) domande da parte degli studenti sui testi in programma.
Students should be able to scrutizine philosophical texts written in English, to know and present the main arguments in favour of the examined theories and views, and to know how to discuss them critically. This will be accomplished via i) oral examinations, ii) students' presentations during the course, iii) quality of the students' questions on the scrutinized texts.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
Esame orale per tutti gli studenti; per i frequentanti, eventuale valutazione di domande scritte sui testi in programma. La valutazione dipenderà da: i) grado di preparazione e di capacità di affrontare criticamente i testi, ii) capacità di presentazione orale di un articolo, iii) capacità di porre domande efficaci e pertinenti sui testi in programma. Questo consentirà di testare le abilità dello studente sia in relazione agli obiettivi formativi sia in relazione ai risultati attesi.
Durante l'emergenza coronavirus gli esami si terranno in modalità telematica sulla piattaforma webex
Oral examination for all students; for the attendees, possible evaluation of written questions on the scrutinized texts. The evaluation will depend on: i) the students' preparation on the programmed texts and their ability to face them critically, ii) their capacity to make an oral presentation of a paper, iii) their capacity to ask pertinent and penetrating questions on the programmed texts. This will enable one to test the students' abilità both with respect to the learning objectives and with respect to the expected results.

L'insegnamento consisterà nella presentazione delle principali teorie metafisiche sull'esperienza percettiva, dal realismo diretto e indiretto fino al fenomenalismo da una parte e al realismo ingenuo dall'altra. Oltre che fornire una panoramica sulle posizioni esistenti e sulle loro relazioni e un'interpretazione delle loro tesi principali, l'insegnamento si concentrerà sui due argomenti fondamentali che sono stati storicamente avanzati a difesa della posizione fenomenalista e di quella realista indiretta, rispettivamente l'argomento dell'illusione e l'argomento dell'allucinazione, per vedere quanto, nonostante la loro plausibilità, tali argomenti siano concretamente difendibili e come siano invece criticabili dalla prospettiva realista. Durante il corso dell'insegnamento si dibatteranno così i fondamentali temi che riguardano l'esperienza percettiva: in particolare, il carattere fenomenico dell'esperienza percettiva e il suo rapporto col contenuto intenzionale da un lato, e la relazione tra contenuto intenzionale e oggetto intenzionale dell'esperienza percettiva dall'altro.
The course will present the main positions on the metaphysical nature of the perceptive experience, from direct and indirect realism up to phenomenalism and naive realism. It will provide a survey on such position and their relationships, along with different interpretations and their main theses. It will focus on the two main arguments that have been provided in favour of phenomenalism and indirect realism, the argument from illusion and the argument from hallucination, in order to see whether, their intrinisc plausibility notwithstanding, such argument are really defensible or they can be criticized from the realist standpoint. During the course, one will scrutinize the main issues concerning perceptual experience, namely: the phenomenal character of perceptual experience and its relationship with the intentional content of such an experience on the one hand, and the relationship between the intentional content and the intentional object of such an experience on the other hand.
